Zane Shreve picked a perfect time to get his first career indoor victory.

Shreve, a 2014 Jay County High School graduate, earned the first indoor win of his career for the Miami University men’s track team as it competed in the Indiana Relays on Friday and Saturday.

The senior won the 1,000-meter portion of the heptathlon with a time of 2 minutes, 55.01 seconds.

In the process of finishing third in the heptathlon with a career-best score of 4,626, he also set career marks in pole vault, high jump and shot put. He tied for third in pole vault with a height of 13 feet, 1.5 inches, was fourth in shot put at 38 feet, 0.75 inches, and placed sixth in long jump with a distance of 20 feet, 1.5 inches.

He was third in the 60 hurdles (8.89 seconds), fifth in 60 dash (7.46) and sixth in high jump (5 feet, 9.75 inches).



Elijah Kahlig

Fort Rec. – 2014

Reached double figures in scoring Saturday for the University of Findlay men’s basketball team as it kept its winning streak alive with a 96-77 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan.

Kahlig did all his damage from long range, going 5-of-9 from behind the arc to finish with 15 points. He also had five assists for the NCAA Division II No. 11 Oilers (20-2, 14-0 Great Midwest Athletic Conference).

He had six points and three assists Jan. 25 in a 92-65 win over Trevecca Nazarene.

The Oilers have now won 16 straight games, with their last loss a 69-68 setback to Ferris State on Nov. 25.

South Adams – 2015

Had a season-best time while earning an NCAA provisional qualifying time for the Purdue University women’s swim team as it split a dual meet with Northwestern and host Minnesota on Friday and Saturday.

The junior was second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2 minutes, 14.85 seconds, and fourth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.72. She also helped the Boilermakers’ 200 medley B relay finish fourth.

Purdue lost to No. 18 Minnesota 212-141 but beat Northwestern 269-84. The Boilermakers finished their dual meet record at 5-3 (3-2 B1G).

Jay County – 2016

Competed for the Ball State University women’s swim team in a 212-88 loss Saturday to Buffalo.

Vormohr was second and third respectively in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke races. She was also fourth in the 50 freestyle, and anchored the 400 freestyle relay that was second.

Bader’s best finish was in the 200 butterfly as she was third. She added a fourth place in the 200 individual medley and fifth in the 200 breaststroke.



Abby Wendel 

Jay County – 2016

Totaled 22 points over the span of two games for the NAIA Division II No. 3 University of Rio Grande women’s basketball team.

The sophomore was 5-of-10 shooting and made four of her five free throws to finish with 15 points in an 88-79 win over IU-Kokomo on Jan. 25. She also had six rebounds, one assist and a steal.

Wendel tallied eight points, six rebounds, one assist and one steal in an 85-52 win Saturday over Cincinnati Christian as the Red Storm (24-2, 12-0 RSC) pushed their winning streak to 22 consecutive games.



Scott Schwieterman

Jay County – 2013

Had his streak of scoring in double digits end at five games Wednesday as the Indiana Tech men’s basketball team lost in overtime 91-84 to University of Michigan-Dearborn.

He was 4-of-6 from the field for eight points while grabbing five rebounds and an assist for the NAIA Division II No. 5 Warriors (21-5, 13-3 Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference).

On Saturday he had 10 points, four rebounds and a block in a 73-70 win over Lourdes. 



Catherine Dunn

Jay County – 2015

Scored a dozen points for the Brescia University women’s basketball team Jan. 25 in a 70-67 loss to Ohio Christian.

She was 3-of-9 from the field, including 2-for-3 from behind the arc, and made all four of her free throws. The junior also had one rebound before she fouled out.

Dunn added six points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal as the Bearcats (8-16, 4-8 River States Conference) lost to Cincinnati Christian 69-62 Tuesday.

Ashton Klopp

South Adams – 2017

Was second in a pair of races and helped a runner-up relay for the University of Findlay women’s swim team Friday in a 228-43 win over Tiffin.

She was second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1 minute, 3.82 seconds, then had a time of 2:17.09 to finish runner-up in the 200 individual medley.



Cindy In’t Groen

South Adams – 2016

Came off the bench to notch a career-high scoring total for the Huntington University women’s basketball team Saturday in a 74-57 win over Spring Arbor.

The sophomore finished with nine points, surpassing her previous total by one point. She also had three rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals for the Foresters (15-8, 8-4 Crossroads League).



Emma Laux

Jay County – 2016

Competed for the Butler University track team during its indoor season.

In the Fort Wayne Duals on Jan. 20 at IPFW, she was ninth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1 minute, 4.02 seconds. She was also 25th in the 200 dash in 28.02.

Laux was 19th in the 400 dash (1:02.8) in the Fred Wilt Invitational at Purdue on Friday and Saturday. She also had a time of 28.1 seconds to finish 26th in the 200 dash.



Bailey McIntire

South Adams – 2017

Ran unattached as his Purdue University men’s track team hosted the Fred Wilt Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

The freshman was second in the 1-mile run with a time of 4 minutes, 21.86 seconds. 

His teammate Bryan Hester won with a time of 4:11.87.



Abbi Dunlavy

Jay County – 2014

Competed for the host IPFW women’s track team Jan. 20 in the Fort Wayne Duals.

The senior’s best finish was in the 800-meter run as she was 25th with her time of 2 minutes, 50.38 seconds.

She was also 28th in the 1-mile run in 6:02.38.



Abigail Scott

Jay County – 2014

Opened her indoor track season for Indiana Wesleyan on Jan. 20 at the IWU Invitational it hosted.

The senior was fifth in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 3 minutes, 24.27 seconds. Ball State’s Brooke Talhelm won in 3:01.39.



Simon Brumfield

Jay County – 2017

Competed for the Wabash College men’s track team at the Engineer Invitational on Friday hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

He was last out of 19 competitors in the weight throw with a distance of 26 feet, 8.25 inches. The Little Giants totaled 109.5 points and finished second to RHIT with 152.5 points.
