Katy Smeltzer helped her collegiate Patriots win the conference meet for the fourth year in a row Saturday.
Then she earned academic all-conference for the second straight year.
Smeltzer, a 2015 Jay County High School graduate, finished in the top five in three individual events and helped a pair of runner-up relays as the University of Cumberlands women’s swim team captured its fourth straight Mid-South Conference championship Saturday.
The junior, who also earned academic all-conference honors, was fourth in both the 50-yard freestyle (24.84 seconds) and the 100 butterfly (1 minute, 0.07 seconds). She was also fifth in the 100 freestyle (54.24).
The junior was the third leg of the 200 freestyle relay that finished second in 1:38.23, and kicked off the 400 freestyle relay that was runner-up in 2:35.92.
The Patriots totaled 519 points over the three-day meet. Lindenwood-Belleville was a distant second with 362 points.
In order to be nominated for MSC academic all-conference, an athlete must maintain a grade point average of 3.25 or higher.

Powered the Brescia University women’s basketball team to a pair of victories as it snapped a five-game losing streak.
The junior was 7-of-11 from the field, including a 3-for-4 effort from long range, and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line for a game-high 23 points Saturday in a 76-68 win over IU Kokomo. She also had seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. It was the third time this season she’s scored 20 or more points.
Dunn added 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal Tuesday as the Bearcats (10-16, 6-8 River States Conference) defeated Asbury 66-60.

Competed for the Ball State University women’s swim team Saturday in a meet with Green Bay and host Notre Dame.
Bader was fifth in both the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 12.95 seconds) and the 100 butterfly (58.69 seconds). She was also part of the 200 freestyle B relay that was fourth in 1:42.31.
Vormohr finished seventh in the 50 freestyle (24.86 seconds) and 100 freestyle (54.82 seconds), and helped the 200 freestyle A relay place second in 1:39.06.
The Cardinals lost to the Fighting Irish 164-75.

Helped the University of Findlay men’s basketball team bounce back from having its 16-game winning streak snapped by scoring in double figures Saturday in a 72-60 win over Walsh College.
The senior was 5-of-10 from the field with a trio of 3-pointers on his way to finishing second on the team with 14 points. He also grabbed a pair of rebounds, blocked a shot and notched an assist.
Kahlig contributed four points and two assists Feb. 1 in an 82-71 loss to Malone. It was the first loss for the NCAA Division II No. 11 Oilers (21-3, 15-1 Great Midwest Athletic Conference) since Nov. 25.

Returned to double figures in scoring for the Indiana Tech men’s basketball team Saturday in a 68-66 victory over Rochester College.
The senior forward was 7-of-12 from the field for 14 points and finished second on the team with eight rebounds. He also had an assist as the NAIA Division II No. 5 Warriors moved to 22-5 (14-3 Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference).

Earned a major decision for the Indiana Tech wrestling team Friday as it defeated the host Manchester Spartans, 37-9.
Miller, a 125-pound sophomore, kicked off the dual by notching a 15-3 major decision against Josh Stephenson, as the NAIA No. 5 Warriors moved to 11-6 on the year.
The junior improved his season record to 21-9.

Contributed for the Wright State-Lake Campus men’s basketball team Friday in a 102-75 win over Kent State-Tuscarawas at Wright State’s Nutter Center.
He made two of his four field goals to finish with four points in 11 minutes. He also had three steals and two assists for the Lakers (9-15).

Ran for the Indiana Wesleyan women’s track team as it hosted the IWU Midwest Classic on Friday.
She was third in the 1,000-meter run with her time of 3 minutes, 21.52 seconds. Teammate Jill VanDyk won in 3:18.58.

Also competed in the IWU Midwest Classic on Friday for the Taylor University men’s track team.
The sophomore was fourth in shot put with a distance of 14.41 meters, and finished 10th in weight throw at 13.28 meters while finishing first in his flight.

Was the runner-up in two events for the University of Findlay women’s swim team on Jan. 26 in a 228-43 win over Tiffin.
She had a time of 1 minute, 3.82 seconds, to place second in the 100-yard backstroke, and finished with a time of 2:17.09 in the 200 individual medley.
