BERNE — The Starfires closed out the regular season in dominating fashion.
South Adams High School’s boys swim team won 11 of the 12 events on Thursday to finish first in a meet with Marion and South Side.
The Starfires totaled 128 points. Marion was second with 76 and South Side scored 18 for third.
Brayden Collingsworth, Zach Colpaert and Kam Yoder were all double winners. Collingsworth was first in both the 200 and 500-yard freestyle races. He had a time of 2 minutes, 15.66 seconds in the former and 6:11.95 in the latter.
Colpaert won both the 50 freestyle (23.27 seconds) and 100 freestyle (54.31), while Yoder was first in the 200 individual medley (2:25.57) and 100 butterfly (57.98 seconds).
Tyler Yoder scored 188.37 points to win diving, Trey Lehman was first in the 100 back in 1:07.55 and Curtis Sprunger had a time of 1:17.76 to win the 100 breaststroke.
Stars snap streak
HARTFORD CITY — The South Adams boys basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak Thursday wth a 62-54 win over the Blackford Bruins.
The Starfires (5-11) had their 17-12 lead after the first quarter turn into a 33-22 deficit at halftime. But they came roaring back against the Bruins (11-6). South Adams had a 24-12 edge in the third quarter to lead by one before pulling away in the fourth quarter.
Spenser Clark was 6-of-11 from 3-point range and had a pair of free throws to lead South Adams with 20 points. James Arnold finished with 17 points and Lars In’t Groen joined them in double figures with 10 points.
Jay boys fourth
OSSIAN — Jay County’s middle school boys swim team finished fourth on Thursday in the Norwell Invitational.
The host Knights won with 376 points. Bluffton was second with 201 and Indian Springs totaled 196 for third. Jay County scored 189 points. South Adams had 92 for sixth.
Konner Sommers, Nico Minnich, Juan Pablo Wiggins and Ben Nichols teamed to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in1 minute, 58.77 seconds. It was the only win for Jay County.
Sommers added a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle and Josh Monroe was fourth in the 100 breaststroke. Kyle Sanders, Monroe, Wiggins and Minnich were fourth in the 300 freestyle relay.
Eagles split
BERNE — The West Jay Middle School sixth grade boys basketball teams split with the host South Adams Starfires on Thursday.
The A team won 47-14 to close the season on a five-game winning streak. The B squad fell 33-11.
Parker Nichols totaled 20 points for the WJMS A team. which also got 14 points from Jackson Edwards. Liam Garringer tallied six points and Ryan Cross added three points.
In the B squad’s game, Peyton Lykins and Darren Fisher both had four points for West Jay. Jason Ayala finished with three points.
South Adams stats were not provided.
