Drew LeFever competed in the IHSAA state finals as a Starfire.
Now he’ll participate in a national tournament.
LeFever, a 2016 South Adams High School graduate, earned an NAIA national B standard in the shot put for the Taylor University men’s track team in the inaugural Crossroads League Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan.
The sophomore had a distance of 15.21 meters to finish sixth. He achieved the feat on his third preliminaryattempt, and wasn’t able to build off it in the finals.
LeFever was also 10th in the weight throw at 13.29 meters, which he accomplished on his first preliminary attempt.
The Trojans scored 128.5 points to finish second behind the host Wildcats, who had 151 points.

Helped the University of Rio Grande women’s basketball team clinch the division title and earn a spot in the NAIA Division II National Championship tournament with a 78-63 victory Saturday over Ohio Christian.
Wendel was 3-of-4 from the field and made both of her free throws as she finished with eight points to go with her six rebounds and three assists. She also snagged three steals.
The victory clinched the East Division title and the overall regular season River States Conference championship to secure the berth in the national tournament, which begins March 6 in Sioux City, Iowa.
The No. 21 Red Storm also clinched the No. 1 seed for the RSC tournament beginning March 21.
Wendel scored 15 points with five rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot on Tuesday as the Red Storm (26-3, 14-2 RSC) fell to Point Park, 89-86.
Tyler Leonhard

Finished eighth for the Manchester University wrestling team Saturday in the Mid-States Invitational.
The freshman won his opening-round match of the 184-pound tournament with a 5-4 decision against Brad Minnard of Otterbein before getting pinned in 2:28 by eventual runner-up Alex Bair of Ohio Northern.
In the consolation matches, Leonhard pinned Nick Rose of Mount Saint Joseph in 2:26 before suffering an 8-2 loss to Will Amberger of Wabash College. Leonhard then dropped the seventh-place match on a 13-4 major decision to Minnard.
Leonhard is now 8-9 on the season.

Narrowly missed scoring in double figures in three straight games for the Indiana Tech men’s basketball team.
The senior forward was 3-of-8 from the field and made three of his four free throws to finish with nine points Wednesday in a 72-57 win over Lawrence Tech. He also had eight rebounds and a blocked shot.
On Saturday, he finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and a block, and shared the game-high of five assists as the NCAA Division II No. 5 Warriors (23-5, 16-3 Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference) knocked off University of Northwestern Ohio 87-60 onsenior night.

He was 2-of-3 from long range and made both of his free throws to finish with eight points in a 107-86 win over Lake Erie on Feb. 8. He also had three rebounds and an assist.
Tuesday the senior scored nine points, grabbed two rebounds and shared the game high of four assists as the NCAA Division II No. 15 Oilers (23-3, 17-1 Great Midwest Athletic Conference) defeated Cedarville 85-56. It was the third straight win for the Oilers and 19th in the last 22 contests.

Scored for the University of Findlay women’s swim team in the opening day of the inaugural Great Midwest Athletic Conference and Mountain East Conference Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday in Canton, Ohio.
The freshman was fifth in the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 10.38 seconds, despite beating her prelim time by 0.32 seconds and slipping two spots from her third seed from earlier in the morning. Teammate Hanna Cederholm was the champion in 2:04.48.
Klopp is seeded fourth in the 100 butterfly ahead of today’s preliminaries. The meet continues through Saturday.

Made her collegiate debut for the University of Saint Francis softball team on Feb. 3 in a 5-1 loss to Madonna in the NAIA Leadoff Tournament in Rosemont, Illinois.
The freshman started in the circle for the Cougars and lasted four innings. She gave up five runs — one earned — on four hits. She struck out three and walked three in 21 batters faced.
Augsburger and the Cougars were 3-2 in the two-day tournament, getting wins against Aquinas College, Roosevelt University and Cleary University.

Threw for the Wabash College men’s track team on Saturday at the DePauw Indoor Invitational.
The freshman was 35th out of 43 competitors in the weight throw with a distance of 30 feet, 5.75 inches. Eric Fiacable of Rose-Hulman won at 56 feet, 6.75 inches.
Brumfield was also 40th inshot put at 28 feet, 3 inches. Rose-Hulman’s Josh Himes was first with a distance of 48 feet, 3.5 inches.
The Little Giants scored 119 points to win the 14-team invitational.

Competed for the Indiana Wesleyan women’s track team in the Crossroads League Championship it hosted Friday and Saturday.
She was eighth in her heat and 12th overall in the 1,000-meter run in 3 minutes, 22.13 seconds. Alexandra Berends of Taylor was the champion in 3:01.79. As ateam the Wildcats scored 162 points to finish second behind Taylor’s 179 points.

South Adams – 2015
Won his 125-pound match for the Indiana Tech wrestling team Feb. 8 in a 30-15 home victory over Lourdes University.
The junior kicked off the evening by pinning Ray Porter in 5 minutes, 13 seconds.
With the win, the NAIA No. 7 Miller moved to 22-9 on the season.

Totaled 11 points over two games for the Brescia University women’s basketball team as it split a pair of contests.
The junior was 2-of-9 from the field for six points and added one rebound in a 60-59 win Feb. 8 against IU-Kokomo.
Dunn then scored five points and grabbed three rebounds with a trio of assists and a steal on Saturday as the Bearcats (11-17, 7-9 River States Conference) fell to Alice Lloyd, 84-60.
