Capsule Reports
Lost control
Two were injured when a driver lost control of her vehicle around 5 p.m. Thursday.
Skyla A. Fisher, 18, Redkey, was driving west on county road 800 South near its intersection with county road 300 East. She told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she lost control of the 1998 Buick LeSabre she was driving. The Buick slid on loose material on the road and turned sideways, entering a ditch on the south side of the road and striking a utility pole.
Fisher sustained injuries to her abdomen and was transported by Lutheran Air medical helicopter to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Her passenger, Brooklyn Shawver-Petty, 1, Portland, had cuts on her face and was taken to Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie for treatment.
The LeSabre is registered to Angela Fisher, Redkey.
The sheriff’s office attributed the accident, which caused between $5,000 and $10,000 in damage, to unsafe speed.
Failure to yield
Two cars sustained between $5,000 and $10,000 in damage Wednesday when a driver failed to yield to another car.
Morgan Crawford, 21, Lima, Ohio, was driving west on Indiana 67 approaching its intersection with U.S. 27 in Bryant. The Jay County Sheriff’s Office accident report says Crawford failed to yield at the intersection to Branden T. Ashcraft, 33, Portland, who was driving north on U.S. 27. Crawford was driving a 2012 Mazda 5, registered to Judith Crawford, Portland. Ashcraft was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier, registered to Phaedra Mann, Bryant.
Crawford was cited for failing to yield in the 11:20 p.m. accident.
