Thank you for Tri Kappa support

To the editor:

Gov. Eric Holcomb has designated Feb. 18 through 24 as Tri Kappa Week in Indiana. 

Tri Kappa Sorority is a philanthropic organization existing only within the boundaries of the State of Indiana.

Since 1901, Tri Kappa members have donated untold hours and millions of dollars to projects in Indiana. There are 247 Chapters in Tri Kappa and more than 9,000 members.

The main work of each chapter is to support charity, culture and education. All chapters support Riley Children’s Hospital in various ways.

The Portland Beta Theta Chapter supports Arts Place, Community and Family Services, the 4th of July Celebration, Jay County Historical Society, Jay County Public Library, Jay Community Center, Jay County Summer Swim Team, Head Start, Jay County Chamber of Commerce, Pregnancy Care Center, Jay County Special Olympics, Youth Service Bureau, United Way of Jay County and Winterfest.

Annually, we give $3,000 in scholarships to Jay County High School seniors and Christmas gifts to each resident at the county retirement home and the county nursing and group homes. We donated $1,500 to the building of Portland Water Park and raised $10,000 to build a Gazebo that was donated to Hudson Family Park.

The Sorority would like to thank the public for sustaining our annual fundraisers: Terri Lynn Nuts/Abbott Caramels, Vera Bradley/Thirty One Bingo (April 23 this year at Jay County High School) and the slushie and caramel apple sales at the Jay County Fair. Thanks to those who buy advertisements that we announce at the fair.

Grateful appreciation to the fair board for allowing us to sell and take tickets and usher at various events and to the associate chapter for its help with these projects.
