Patriot boys open with Generals, SA gets bye
Sectional tournament runs Feb. 27 through March 3
INDIANAPOLIS — The Patriots open with the Generals.
The Starfires have to wait to see who will be their opponent.
In the IHSAA boys basketball sectional tournament pairings show held Sunday, the Jay County High School boys basketball team received an opening-round matchup with the Wayne Generals.
The Patriots (13-8), who over the weekend lost back-to-back games for the third time this season, open Class 4A Sectional 6 play at 7 p.m. Feb. 27 against the Wayne Generals (13-6) at Huntington North. The winner advances to the 6 p.m. semifinal March 2 against the former JCHS coach Craig Teagle and the host Vikings (16-6).
Feb. 28 features a pair of quarterfinal games that pit the Homestead Spartans (13-7), who are four-time defending sectional champions, against the Columbia City Eagles (10-13) at 6 p.m, with the South Side Archers (12-9) and Muncie Central Bearcats (6-14) to meet at approximately 7:30 p.m.
The winner of the Feb. 28 contests advance to the second semifinal approximately 7:30 p.m. March 2.
The championship game is slated for 7 p.m. March 3.
In the Class 2A Sectional 36 tournament at South Adams, the host Starfires (5-15) received a bye and await the winner of a first-round game between the Bluffton Tigers (8-13) and Adams Central Flying Jets (10-10). The Tigers and Jets square off at 6 p.m. Feb. 27, and the winner will advance to the 6 p.m. March 2 semifinal against South Adams.
Churubusco (9-11), which won the program’s first sectional crown last season, and Eastside (10-11) meet at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 27, with the winner advancing to play the Canterbury Cavaliers (9-11) at 7:30 p.m. March 2.
The sectional final is 7:30 p.m. March 3.
