Middle school swim teams fall to Norwell

OSSIAN — Jay County’s middle school swim teams both lost to the host Norwell Knights on Monday.

The girls got four event victories but lost 117-63. Jay County’s boys fell 129-51.

Mara Bader won the 100-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 1.62 seconds, and had a time of 1:17.99 to win the 100 breaststroke.

Emily Dues scored 88.05 points to win diving, and was also fourth in the 50 freestyle. Jay County’s 300 freestyle relay also finished first.

Elayna Paro had a pair of runner-up finishes to Bader. Abby Johnson was third in the 50 butterfly and Kenzie Clayton placed fourth in the 200 and 400 freestyle races, as Emily Strausburg (100 individual medley) and Avalyne Carter (100 backstroke) were also fourth.

Damian Hicks (100 freestyle), Konner Sommers (50 butterfly) and Ben Nichols (100 breaststroke) all finished second. Hicks added a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle, Sommers was third in the 50 freestyle and Nichols placed third in the 50 freestyle.

Josh Monroe finished third in both the 100 IM and 100 breaststroke, and Nico Minnich was third in the 400 freestyle.

Kyle Sanders placed fourth in the 100 backstroke.



Sectional tickets on sale

Tickets for the Jay County High School boys basketball sectional tournament will be on sale at the JCHS athletic office Wednesday through Feb. 27.

Season passes, which are good for the entire tournament, cost $10. They will be on sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each weekday, with sales ending at 1 p.m. Feb. 27.

Single-session tickets are $6 and are available only at Huntington North.

The Patriots, who host the Woodlan Warriors tonight in the Allen County Athletic Conference finale, open sectional at approximately 7:30 p.m. Feb. 27 against the Wayne Generals at Huntington North.
