Deer struck
Two men hit deer with the cars they were driving Wednesday night and this morning.
Robert E. Moles, 25, Pennville, was driving east on county road 450 North near its intersection with River Road on Wednesday when a deer ran into the roadway. He told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was unable to avoid hitting it with his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Damage in the 8:39 p.m. accident is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
At 1:40 a.m. today, James R. Yeazel, 58, Winchester, hit a deer while driving south on U.S. 27 near its intersection with county road 500 South. He was driving a 2012 Ford Edge, registered to Kalmach Feeds Inc., Upper Sandusky, Ohio. Damage is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Rear-end collision
Two county residents were involved in a vehicle collision Wednesday afternoon in Portland.
Kady L. Finnerty, 17, Dunkirk, was driving north on Meridian Street and was stopped at its intersection with Lafayette Street. When the light turned green, Diana L. Lawhead, 53, Portland, who was stopped behind Finnerty, hit the back of the car Finnerty was driving with her 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. Finnerty was driving a 2007 Volkswagen Eos, registered to Terry A. Finnerty, same address asdriver .
Portland Police Department attributed the accident to Lawhead following Finnerty too closely.
Damage in the 2:32 p.m. collision is estimated to be less than $1,000.
