BERNE — The Chiefs are conference champions.
East Jay Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams both clinched Allen County Athletic Conference championships Thursday as they defeated host South Adams.
The seventh graders had a 56-23 victory to finish 7-0 in ACAC play as they moved to 10-4 on the season.
The eighth grade Chiefs won 31-25 to finish 6-1 in ACAC play to share the conference title with Bluffton.
Bennett Weitzel had 16 points to lead the EJMS seventh graders. Dawson Hundley and Dusty Pearson were both second on the team with eight points, and Blake Bogenschutz totaled six points.
Matt Steiner and Gavin Myers had seven and six points respectively for the Starfires (5-9, 2-5 ACAC).
Gavin Muhlenkamp scored 13 points to pace the East Jay eighth graders. Gavin Myers followed with seven points, and Ethan Dirksen had five points.
Trey Schoch led the eighth grade Starfires with 14 points. Colin Stuber and Leo Palomo both had six points.
Chief 7th wins ACAC
East Jay’s seventh grade girls basketball team claimed the ACAC championship on Thursday with a 35-24 win over South Adams.
The eighth grade Chiefs lost, 44-27.
Renna Schwieterman scored 15 points for the seventh grade Chiefs, which improved to 12-1 (7-0 ACAC). Olivia Waters contributed 12 points, and Lydia Keihn was third on the team with eight points.
Madison Dirksen scored 14 points to lead the Chief eighth graders (7-6). Heaven Hambrock followed with 11 points, and Emily Chenoweth tallied two points.
South Adams stats were not available.
Eagles beat Patriots
MONROEVILLE — The seventh and eight grade girls basketball teams from West Jay both knocked off the host Heritage Patriots on Thursday.
The eighth grade Eagles won 47-15, and the seventh graders earned a 34-16 victory.
Isabel Rodgers poured in 26 points to lead the eighth grade Eagles, who also got 11 points from Kaelyn Denney, five points from Lizzie Dollar and three points from Taryn Caldwell. Grace Shimp contributed two points.
Paige Mumbower and Shimp each had eight points for the seventh grade squad. Gabi Bilbrey was third with seven points as Abbie Fields and Taylor Brown had four points apiece.
WJ 7th wins thriller
DUNKIRK — West Jay’s seventh grade boys basketball team outlasted the Heritage Patriots for a 27-25 double-overtime victory Thursday.
The seventh grade Eagles lost, 55-18.
Camdin Harrison scored 13 points for the WJMS eighth graders. Trenton Alexander and Nick Street both had six points as Kess McBride tallied two points.
Tavin Wasson led the WJMS seventh graders with five points while Landon Lowe and Jaydence Brannon had four points apiece. Dominick Newsome contributed three points.
Sixth graders win
UNION CITY — The East Jay sixth grade girls basketball teams picked up victories against the Union City Indians on Thursday.
The A team moved to 2-0 with a 33-10 win, and the B squad opened its year with a 15-8 win.
Sophie Saxman and Bralee VanSkyock led the A team with nine and eight points respectively. Hannah Laux was third with six points.
Brenna Haines and Bella Denton scored four points apiece to lead the B squad. Skylynn Powell added three points.
Eagle 6th fall
DUNKIRK — West Jay’s sixth grade girls basketball teams both fell to Muncie Northside on Thursday at West Jay Community Center.
The A team lost 12-6, and the B team dropped a 12-2 score.
Laila Waddell scored all six points for the A team, as Angel Clairday tallied both points for the B squad.
