Girls basketball sectional tournaments are set

INDIANAPOLIS — The Patriots will open postseason play against the Owls.

The Starfires will meet the host squad.

In the IHSAA girls basketball state tournament released Sunday, the Jay County High School girls basketball team returns to Class 3A and got an opening-round game against the Burris Owls.

The Patriots (14-8) and Owls (7-12) will square off in the Class 3A Sectional 24 tournament at Blackford at 6 p.m. Jan. 31. 

The winner advances to the sectional semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2 against either Blackford (1-18) or No. 10 Hamilton Heights (15-6), who meet at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 31.

In the top half of the bracket, New Castle (8-13) meets Delta (10-11) at 7 p.m. Jan. 30, with the winner advancing to meet Yorktown (11-8) in the first sectional semifinal at 6 p.m. Feb. 2.

The sectional championship is slated for 7:30 p.m. at 3 p.m.

In the Class 2A Sectional 36 tournament at Eastside in Butler, defending sectional champion South Adams (13-8) meets the host Blazers (13-7) at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 30. 

The winner advances to play Fort Wayne Canterbury (6-13) in the sectional semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2.

Bluffton (15-5) received a bye to the 6 p.m. Feb. 2 semifinal game.

The Tigers await the winner of the 6 p.m. Jan. 30 quarterfinal matchup between Chrubusco (3-17) and Adams Central (3-17).

The sectional title game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 3.
