MONROEVILLE — The Starfires are tournament champions.
The South Adams Middle School seventh grade boys basketball team claimed the Adams Central Invitational championship Saturday.
The Starfires (7-9) defeated the host Jets 48-32 in the title game after disposing of West Jay 39-24 in the semifinal.
South Adams’ eighth grade squad lost in the title game to Adams Central.
West Jay’s squad both lost the first game of the tournament.
Matt Steiner led the SAMS seventh graders with 25 points over the two games, a Kyle Miger and Josh Amstutz both had 18 points. Gavin Myers contributed 13 points on the day.
The SAMS eighth grade team lost to Adams Central 28-26 in the final after defeating West Jay 36-29. Aidan Wanner paced the Stars with 21 points for the tournament, as Trey Schoch and Kaleb Stevens contributed 14 and 10 points respectively.
For West Jay’s eighth graders, Camdin Harrison scored 18 points against South Adams. Skyler Bee led the WJMS seventh graders with eight points as Spencer Caldwell had six points and 15 rebounds.
Chief eighth wins
East Jay’s seventh grade girls basketball team won Saturday as it hosted East Jay Invitational.
The eighth grade squad was 1-1 on the day.
East Jay’s seventh graders (14-1) defeated Monroe Central in the semifinal 29-2 before beating Selma 31-21 in the final.
Renna Schwieterman had 26 points over the two games, as Olivia Waters tallied 18 points.
The eighth grade team (8-7) lost to Monroe Central 24-22 in the semifinal and bounced back with a 20-7 win over Yorktown in the consolation game.
Madison Dirksen led the Chiefs with 18 points, as Heaven Hambrock recorded 10 points.
