Vehicle recovered
A vehicle stolen in Muncie was recovered Wednesday night in Portland.
A vehicle was observed driving through alleys close to midnight Wednesday. When Portland Police Department officers ran the license plate, they discovered the car was reported stolen earlier that day in Muncie. A16 year old was driving the car with three juvenile passengers, and officers allegedly discovered alcohol in the vehicle. The 16 year old was released to his father, who owned the vehicle and had reported it stolen. The three other teens were also released to their parents. All were referred to probation for the charges of minor consumption of alcohol.
Lines struck
Asemi truck struck low-hanging electrical lines Wednesday, bringing down three poles.
David A. Berryman, 61, Marion, was driving a Peterbilt semi truck north on Bridge Street just past its intersection with Second Street when the top of the semi hit Indiana Michigan power lines, causing a pole to break and fall. A second pole then broke and fell on a house, while a third fell across Second Street. Berryman told Portland Police Department he had driven on Bridge Street before and had never had a problem with the clearance. Police attributed the accident to low-hanging lines. The semi is registered to R & L Transfer Inc., Alexandria.
Damage in the 1:18 p.m. collision is estimated between $25,000 and $50,000.
Parking collision
A Portland teen struck a parked car with the vehicle she was driving Wednesday while turning into a parking spot.
Payton A. Bailey, 16, was turning into a spot at East Jay Middle School, 225 E. Water St., Portland, when she struck a parked 2013 Buick LaCrosse registered to Christy D. Shauver, Portland. Bailey was driving a 2005 Honda Civic registered to James C. Powell, Portland.
Damage in the 12:02 p.m. collision is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
