Tires slashed
A Portland man’s truck had its tires slashed over the weekend.
Don Enis, who lives in the 100 block of E. North St., told Portland Police Department Sunday that the tires on his 2007 Ford pickup truck were slashed overnight. The investigation is continuing.
Fire calls
Redkey Fire Department responded to two calls over the weekend.
At 10:51 p.m. Friday, firefighters were called to the scene of a structure fire at 6811 W. 400 South, Portland. Jay Emergency Medical Service also responded.
At 7:21 p.m. Saturday, the department responded to a report of a fire at 26 S. Oak St., Redkey.
No further information was available.
Turning accident
A Bryant teen struck a stop sign with the car she was driving Saturday afternoon.
Erika A. Heitkamp, 15, was driving east on Industrial Drive and began to turn right into the drive behind First Bank of Berne, 185 Industrial Drive, Portland. She told Portland Police Department she mistook the gas pedal for the brake pedal, causing the 2013 Suzuki Grand Vitara she was driving to go off the road and hit a stop sign. The Suzuki is registered to Shirley M. Heitkamp, Bryant.
Damage in the 3:32 p.m. accident is estimated to be less than $1,000.
