Boys tankers dominate Bellmont, girls win too
Middle school boys get wins in all 12 events of 209-54 victory
The boys had a dominating victory.
The girls helped complete the sweep.
Jay County’s middle school swim teams both defeated Bellmont on Monday at JCHS.
The boys won all 12 events in their 209-54 victory over the Braves while the girls edged the Squaws, 152-147.
Konner Sommers, Ben Nichols and Juan Pablo Wiggins all finished first in two races and helped a pair of winning relays for the boys.
Sommers won the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 28.83 seconds, and had a time of 34.01 seconds to win the 50 butterfly. Nichols won the 100 individual medley (1:12.28) and the 100 breaststroke (1:18.69), and Wiggins was first in the 50 freestyle (27.64 seconds) and 100 backstroke (1:19.86).
They joined Damian Hicks for a victory in the 200 medley relay in 2:14.38, and joined Nico Minnich to place first in the 200 freestyle relay.
Nick Lyons (diving – 80.35 points), Joseph Dow (400 freestyle – 6:41.46) and Hicks (100 freestyle – 1:05.01) each won their respective events. Jay County’s 300 freestyle relay team of Josh Monroe, Kyle Sanders, Minnich and Hicks also won in 3:29.11.
Elayna Paro and Mara Bader were dual winners for the girls. Paro handled the 200 freestyle (2:28.98) and 50 butterfly (34.16) while Bader won the 100 IM (1:14.76) and the 100 breaststroke (1:22.57).
Emily Dues was first in diving with 94.25 points, and Emily Strausburg had a time of 1:31.38 to win the 100 backstroke.
Paro, Bader and Dues joined Strausburg for a 200 medley relay victory in 2:25.82, and they teamed with Avalyne Carter for a time of 2:08.15 to place first in the 200 freestyle relay.
