Boys swimmers beat Blackford


HARTFORD CITY — Two days after falling short of a conference title, the boys turned in a dominating performance.

The Jay County middle school boys swim team won 11 of the 12 events Monday in a 132-43 victory over the host Blackford Bruins.

Jay County’s girls also won, 92-84.

Konner Sommers and Damian Hicks were both dual winners for Jay County. Sommers was first in the 100-yard individual medley in 1 minute, 17.84 seconds, and followed that up with a time of 33.23 seconds to win the 50 butterfly. Hicks had a victory in the 50 freestyle in 27.95 seconds before finishing first in the 400 freestyle in 5:14.06.

Juan Pablo Wiggins (200 freestyle – 2:24.35), Nick Lyons (diving – 68.3 points), Ben Nichols (100 freestyle – 1:11.3) and Josh Monroe (100 breaststroke – 1:18.63) also had victories in their respective events.

Nichols and Monroe joined Sommers and Wiggins to win the 200 medley relay in 2:19.45, then joined Nico Minnich and Hicks for a victory in the 200 freestyle relay in 2:02.5. Kyle Sanders, Minnich, Sommers and Wiggins had a time of 4:52.55 to place first in the 400 freestyle relay.

Elayna Paro, Emily Dues and Mara Bader were each double winners for the Jay County girls. Paro was first in the 200 freestyle (2:24.52) and 50 freestyle (28.5 seconds); Dues won the 100 IM (1:23.07) and was uncontested in diving with a score of 90 points; and Bader handled the 50 butterfly (31.07 seconds) and 100 backstroke (1:11.18).
