Rear-ended
A car driven by a rural Bryant man was struck in the rear Tuesday afternoon while stopped in traffic on Meridian Street at Industrial Park Drive.
Howard C. Patch, 93, told Portland police he was stopped in his 2005 Chevrolet about 2:15 p.m. when it was hit from behind by a 2002 Dodge Neon driven by Dustin S. Howell, 35, rural Portland. Howell told police he looked away for a second then encountered the car stopped in traffic and was unable to stop in time.
Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Off road
A car driven by a rural Dunkirk man went off the road Tuesday morning after swerving to avoid a dog.
Eric W. Carlsen, 40, told Jay County police he was traveling northwest on Indiana 26 near county road 50 North about 8:15 a.m. when a dog ran into the road from the east. He swerved to miss it and over-corrected the steering. The Carlsen 2015 Chevrolet went off the road, traveled down a steep embankment and back up the other side before coming to rest in a field.
Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Round-up time change
Jay School Corporation will hold kindergarten round-up sessions at 8:45 a.m. in April.
Bloomfield Elementary will be on April 3, Redkey and Westlawn elementaries on April 4 and East Elementary on April 5.
