Penny Sanders, age 69, Portland, passed away Sunday morning at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
She was born in Portland on April 6, 1948, the daughter of William and L. Maxine (Sanders) Money. She was also raised by her step-father Ralph Whitesell.
She was married June 19, 1966, to James Sanders, who survives.
She was retired as a pharmacy tech with Jay County Hospital and also had worked at Walmart and Ponderosa. She was state president of Gamma Nu Sorority, a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and Portland Police Academy Alumni, and a 1966 Portland High School graduate.
Surviving are her husband Jim; one son, Aaron Sanders of Portland; one daughter, Lisa Holcomb (husband: Aaron) of Portland; son-in-law J. Richard Theurer of Portland; brother Bill Money (companion: Margaret) of Geneva; step-brother Richard Whitesell of Dunkirk; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Theurer.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastors Wayne Ward and Hugh Kelly presiding. Burial will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery in Bryant. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m.
