Collin Affolder is on a bit of a hitting spree.

Affolder, a 2014 South Adams High School graduate, smashed six hits in the span of four games for the Bethel College baseball team.

The senior had two hits, drove in a run and scored once as the Pilots knocked off Indiana Wesleyan 5-0 on Friday in the first of a three-game home series against the Wildcats.

On Saturday, he had the only two hits for Bethel in a 6-0 loss in the first game of a doubleheader, before he was hitless in three tries in game two, a 2-1 loss.

The former Starfire was 2-for-5 on Tuesday as the Pilots (9-11, 1-3 Crossroads League) gave up two runs in the eighth inning to lose to Spring Arbor, 6-5.

Affolder has started all 20 games for Bethel, and his .377 batting average is tied for the team lead among the 10 players who have appeared in 15 or more games. His 26 singles are tops on the team. He has three home runs which shares the team high, and he also has 14 RBIs.

Chandler Ingle

South Adams – 2015

Got touched up for his second loss in as many games on Saturday for the Goshen College baseball team.

Ingle started on the bump for the Maple Leafs and lasted just 4 1/3 innings in the second game of a doubleheader against Spring Arbor. He allowed seven runs — six earned — on 10 hits while walking two and striking out just one. The Cougars scored once in the first and second innings before tacking on six more in the fifth (five charged to Ingle) before chasing the junior right-hander from the game.

The former Starfire dipped to 2-2 on the year while the Maples Leafs fell to 8-11. Goshen split a pair of games on Sunday and is 9-12.

Jackson Hobbs

Fort Rec. – 2016

Pitched in a pair of victories recently for the Edison State Community College baseball team.

The sophomore tossed four innings, gave up one unearned run on three hits, walked one and struck out two as the Chargers defeated Lorain County Community College 13-1 on March 15 in the nightcap of a doubleheader.

Hobbs started on Monday in game two of a doubleheader against Ohio State University-Lima, but did not factor into the decision, a 9-6 victory. He lasted five innings, surrendered six runs — three earned — on five hits and walked a pair.

The Chargers are 7-4 on the season, and Hobbs is 2-1.

Katelin Augsburger

South Adams – 2017

Won back-to-back outings for the University of Saint Francis softball team.

The freshman evened her season record at 1-1 on March 10 by helping the Cougars to a 10-3 win over Hannibal-LaGrange. She allowed three earned runs on seven hits in four innings of work while walking two and striking out one.

Two days later she tossed a five-inning shutout, scattering four hits while striking out a career-high 11 batters as the Cougars beat Silver Lake College 15-0.

Augsburger (2-1) pitched one out of relief on March 13 in a 4-1 loss to Concordia. She started March 17 in a game against Goshen, allowing three earned runs on six hits over five innings. She walked four and struck out four for a no decision, which USF (10-7) lost 6-5.

Scored in two events for the Butler University women’s track team as it opened its outdoor season on Saturday in the Stan Lyons Invitational it hosted.

She was sixth in the 400-meter dash in 1 minute, 2.14 seconds before helping the 4x400 relay finish eighth. Laux was the third leg of the relay, joining Carson Fields, Ariel Higgens and Madeline Miller for a time of 4:17.03.

She was also 15th in the 200 dash in 27.83.
