Felony court news
A Bryant man was sentenced this week to 16 years in prison after pleading guilty to a pair of battery charges.
Dylan J. Teeple, 26, was sentenced Monday in Adams County Circuit Court to 12 years in Indiana Department of Correction on one charge and four years on another for a September incident in which he attacked a fellow inmate at Adams County Detention Center.
Teeple pleaded guilty March 9 to the charges of aggravated battery, a Level 3 felony, and battery resulting in serious bodily injury, a Level 5 felony. The charges stemmed from a Sept. 23 incident in which Teeple approached Lucas G. Smith from behind and began choking him. Smith eventually lost consciousness, at which time Teeple punched him in the face several times, dragged him by the hair, slammed his head into a wall and continued to beat him before other inmates intervened.
Smith was treated for multiple injuries as a result of the attack.
As part of a plea agreement, five counts of battery resulting in moderate bodily injury and one count of strangulation, all Level 6 felonies, were dismissed.
