Capsule Reports
Tight turn
A concrete barrier around a railroad crossing signal took a beating Wednesday afternoon when it was struck by two separate semis attempting to make a right turn from Dunkirk’s Railroad Street onto Washington Street.
Dunkirk Police Department reported that Sami G. Dhayghen, 54, Dayton, Ohio, was trying to make the turn in a 2011 Freightliner registered to Trailer XPress Inc. of Grand Rapids, Michigan, about 1:05 p.m. when the trailer of the rig hit the concrete barriers.
The two east-west streets merge at a point near the railroad crossing just west of Ardagh North America’s glass container plant.
Damage was estimated between $10,000 and $25,000.
About 4 hours and 20 minutes later, Stanley O. Watson, 71, New Port Richey, Florida, tried the same maneuver in a 2018 Freightliner registered to Financial Service Inc., of Russellville, Arizona. He didn’t make it either, with his trailer hitting the same concrete barrier. Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
