Three local athletes participated in the Crossroads League Track and Field Championships at Marian University in Indianapolis.
Drew LeFever, a 2016 South Adams High School graduate and sophomore at Taylor University, earned two top-eight finishes for the Trojans. He was sixth inshot put with a distance of 51 feet, 2.75 inches, and was seventh in discus at 139 feet, 5 inches.
He completed his efforts by placing 14th in the hammer throw with a distance of 123 feet, 2 inches.
Abigail Scott, a 2014 Jay County graduate, was sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for Indiana Wesleyan. She finished sixth with her time of 12 minutes, 31.66 seconds. Scott was also 19th in the javelin throw at 66 feet, 7 inches.
Sydney Robbins, a 2016 JCHS graduate and sophomore atUniversity of Saint Francis, scored for the Cougars by placing eighth in javelin at 97 feet, 11 inches.
LeFever and the Trojans totaled 95 points for fourth. Bethel won with a team total of 148, edging Marian by one point, and IWU by four points.
Scott helped IWU score 141 points for second place behind Taylor (179). Marian was third with 139 points.
Robbins and St. Franciswere seventh with 21 points.

Had his collegiate career come to a close Wednesday as the Huntington University baseball team lost in the Crossroads League Tournament championship to Marian.
The Foresters (23-24), who were defending tournament champions, opened the tournament Friday with a 12-1 win over Goshen College before dropping a 4-2 game in 12 innings to Taylor the following day.
Facing elimination from there on out, Huntington beat Mount Vernon Nazarene (10-0) and Indiana Wesleyan (11-3) on Monday before knocking off Taylor 2-1 on Tuesday.
The Foresters then held off Marian 9-8 Tuesday to force a winner-take-all on Wednesday.
Selvey had a hit against Taylor on Saturday and MVN on Tuesday. He recorded two hits, an RBI and scored twice in Tuesday’s win over Marian.
The former Patriot finished his senior season with a .150 batting average with 16 runs and seven RBIs.
Kyra Braun
Jay County – 2016
Had her season come to a close as the Trine University women’s tennis team lost to Hope College 5-0 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association tournament semifinal May 3.
Hope went on to win the tournament and advance to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
Braun and her No. 3 doubles partner Katie Simon fell to Natalie Rahrig and Erin LaBarge 8-2.
In her No. 4 singles match, Braun lost the first set to Rahrig6-3, and was trailing 1-0 before the match went unfinished as Hope had secured the victory.
The Thunder ended the year 11-10.

Watched from the dugout as his college baseball career ended as a member of the Goshen College Maple Leafs asthey their first two games of the Crossroad League Tournament.
Goshen (22-29) dropped the tournament opener 12-1 against Huntington on Friday before bowing out with a 9-3 loss Saturday to Mount Vernon Nazarene.
Ingle did not appear in either game.
The senior ended his final season with a 2-4 record and a 5.44 ERA.
He struck out 30 and walked 27 in 46 1/3 innings.

Suffered another loss pitching for the Edison State Community College baseball team on Sunday in the first game of a doubleheader with Lakeland Community College.
The sophomore allowed eight runs — four earned — on five hits in 3 1/3 innings. He struck one and walked a pair as the Chargers lost 14-5 in five innings.
Hobbs is 2-3 on the year with a 5.79 ERA. He has struck out 30 batters in 42 innings.
