Driver cited
A Portland woman was cited for leaving the scene of an accident after a parking lot mishap about 6:15 p.m. Saturday in the Family Dollar parking lot in Portland.
Dede R. Bisel, 46, was released from Jay County Jail on $1,000 bond after being charged with the misdemeanor.
Brooke M. Bailey, 35, Portland, told Portland Police Department she was pulling into a parking space in her 2006 Dodge Caravan when Bisel backed into her vehicle with a 2006 Ford Taurus. Bisel told police she had just purchased the car and had no insurance, so she momentarily panicked and left the scene.
Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Hit while parked
A Winchester woman told Jay County Sheriff’s Office her vehicle was struck Friday morning while parked at Jay County High School.
Dana W. Jester said her 2008 Chevrolet HHR was parked at the school while classes were in session. When she returned to her vehicle, she found it had been hit.
Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
One hurt
One driver complained of neck pain after a three-vehicle accident Saturday morning in Jefferson Township.
Garth T. Green, 61, Mendon, Ohio, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was headed southwest on Indiana 67 abut 9:50 a.m. and failed to see that a 2010 Toyota driven by Trent M. Steury, 29, Berne, had stopped at the intersection with Como Road to allow a 1994 Buick driven by Debra L. Crump, 58, Portland, to make a turn south onto Como Road.
Green swerved but his 1987 Chevrolet motorhome struck the Steury car, sending it into the Crump vehicle.
Crump complained of neck injuries after the accident.
Total damage was estimated between $10,000 and $25,000.
Deer mishap
Damage estimated between $5,000 and $10,000 was reported when a Ridgeville woman’s 2000 Chevrolet struck a deer about 12:25 a.m. Sunday in Pike Township.
Susan E. Hollowell, 60, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office her car was southbound on U.S. 27 near county road 650 South when the deer ran into its path.
