Deer hit
A semi driven by a Marion woman struck a deer about 6:25 a.m. Thursday on Indiana 67 near county road 700 South.
Sandra Maxey, 47, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she was southbound in a 2015 Freightliner when the deer ran into the roadway.
Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Backing mishap
A pick-up truck backing out of a handicapped parking space struck a van Tuesday about 1:40 p.m. in the parking lot at IU Health Jay, 500 W. Votaw St., Portland.
Billy J. Taylor, 79, Redkey, told Portland Police Department he did not see a van driven by Amy M. Lafuze, 58, Winchester, and backed into its side.
Damage to Taylor’s 1994 Ford Ranger and the van, registered to Community Transport Service of Winchester, was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
