JCHS?freshman finishes eighth in 400 dash
INDIANAPOLIS — Since she began competing in the 400-meter dash, Kinsey Shannon has been chasing the school record.
She had a career-best during the sectional meet on May 15.
Tuesday she inched closer.
Shannon, a Jay County High School freshman, had the best individual finish for the Patriot girls track team as it competed in the IHSAA Girls Track and Field Regional at Ben Davis.
Brebeuf Jesuit totaled 86 points to win the team championship, seven points ahead of runner-up North Central. Lawrence Central scored 58.5 points for third.
Jay County’s two points put it in a three-way tie for 24th out of 28 scoring teams.
Shannon was seeded eighth in the 400 by finishing as the runner-up at sectional in 59.93 seconds.

On Tuesday, she shaved 0.29 seconds off her career-best, placing eighth for one team point and inching closer to the school record time of 59.1 seconds.
The 4x800 relay team of Sophia Fugiett, Kendal Garringer, Gabby Kunkler and Kendra Muhlenkamp was also eighth with their time of 10 minutes, 27.57 seconds.
Lucy Laux, a future Butler Bulldog, capped her high school career by placing 11th in the long jump with her distance of 16 feet. Breea Liette (100 hurdles – 16.92 seconds) and Taylor Muhlenkamp (discus – 98 feet) also ended their prep careers by finishing 14th in their respective events.
Calli Stigleman was 14th in the 100 dash in 13.11 seconds, and Kendra Mulhlenkamp had a time of 2:31 for 14th in the 800 run.
The 4x400 relay team of Grace Saxman, Kendra Muhlenkamp, Renee Omstead and Ashlyn Dow were 15th, and the 4x100 relay team of Karlie Bullard, Stigleman, Omstead and Laux placed 16th.
