Gas siphoned
Several vehicles parked at Orchard Apartments had gas siphoned Thursday night.
A maintenance employee at the apartments, 600 S. Meridian St., Portland, told Portland Police Department three vehicles had gas siphoned out of them.
Turning crash
Two Jay County residents were involved in a vehicle collision Monday morning.
Trevor M. Ingram, 19, Salamonia, was driving north on county road 475 East and stopped at its intersection with county road 400 South. He began to turn left onto county road 400 South and told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he didn’t see Julie A. Harper, who was driving her 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer east on county road 400 South. Harper, 49, Ridgeville, said she was unable to avoid striking the 2002 Pontiac Firebird that Ingram was driving.
The Firebird is registered to Dutchess J. Wilkie, Portland.
Damage in the 9:10 a.m. collision is estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
Sprayer, car collision
A car and a farm vehicle collided Monday afternoon, causing an estimated $2,500 to $5,000 in damage.
Brandi N. Yoder, 31, Farmland, was driving south on Indiana 1 near its intersection with Division Road and was cresting a hill when a farming sprayer in a field on the west side of the road struck the passenger side of Yoder’s 2003 Mercury Mountaineer. Bruce E. Leas, 56, Montpelier, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was turning the sprayer around and was too close to the road, causing it to hit Yoder’s car.
The collision occurred at 2:25 p.m.
Turning collision
A Dunkirk man was cited for driving while suspended after being involved in a collision with another vehicle Sunday.
Payton C. Folkerth, 19, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was driving north on Indiana 1 and turned left into his driveway near the highway’s intersection with county road 100 South. He turned into the path of Donald L. Michael, 38, Montpelier, who was driving south on Indiana 1. The vehicles collided, causing an estimated $2,500 to $5,000 in damage.
Folkerth, who was driving a 2002 Toyota Yaris registered to Christopher K. Bennett, Dunkirk, was cited for driving while his driving privilege, license or learner’s permit was suspended. Michael was driving a 2001 Dodge Neon registered to Jerry A. Michael, Montpelier.
The accident occurred at 6:30 p.m.
Drove off road
A Winchester man’s car sustained between $10,000 and $25,000 in damage Sunday evening when he attempted to “burn rubber.”
Travis L. Sexton, 23, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was stopped on county road 300 East near its intersection with Treaty Line Road. He turned off the traction control on his 2013 Ford Mustang so he could “burn rubber,” but lost control of his vehicle. The Mustang spun off the west side of the road and struck a tree with its driver’s side.
The collision occurred around 6:40 p.m.
Lost control
A Bryant man’s truck was damaged when he lost control of the vehicle early Sunday morning.
Jonas G. Graber, 22, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was driving west on Indiana 18 near its intersection with county road 50 West when his 2001 Ford F250 went over the center line. He overcorrected the steering and lost control, causing the truck to leave the south side of the road and roll onto its top.
Damage in the 1 a.m. accident is estimated between $10,000 and $25,000.
Backing accident
A Geneva man struck a parked car while backing up the vehicle he was driving Saturday night.
Vince E. Robbins, 53, was parked at a residence on Oak Street near its intersection with Tyson Road. He began to back up the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado he was driving and struck a car parked on Oak Street. The parked 2016 Chevrolet Cruze is registered to Kira and Denise Culy, Portland. The Silverado is registered to Biggs Inc., Decatur.
Damage in the 8:58 p.m. collision is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
