Failure to yield
Two cars collided Monday morning when one driver failed to yield at the intersection of Water and Wayne streets in Portland.
Ruby L. Engle, 72, Portland, was driving her 2013 Chrysler Town & Country south on Wayne Street and had stopped at its intersection with Water Street. She told Portland Police Department she didn’t see anybody coming, so she drove out into the road and collided with David E. Waters’ car. Waters, 55, Portland, had been driving east on Water Street and was beginning to turn north onto Wayne Street. He did not have a stop sign.
Damage in the 10:04 a.m. accident is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Backing accident
Two Portland residents were involved in a vehicle collision Monday in the Circle K North parking lot.
Lorie J. Gregory, 47, was backing out of a space at the convenience store, 325 N. Meridian St., Portland, when she struck Donald M. Loper’s 2000 Dodge Ram. Gregory told Portland Police Department she didn’t see Loper, 56, who was waiting to exit the parking lot onto Meridian Street.
Gregory was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Impala, registered to Connie J. Ferguson, Portland.
Damage in the 1:09 p.m. collision is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Deer struck
A Portland man’s car sustained damage Monday morning when he struck a deer.
Michael M. Link, 52, was driving north on county road 600 East near its intersection with county road 500 South when a deer ran out into the road. He told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was unable to avoid striking it with his 2006 Honda CRV.
Damage in the 6:47 a.m. collision is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
In area courts
These area residents were fined recently in Mercer County (Ohio) Municipal Court: Don Hobson, 86, Dunkirk, seat belt violation, $30; Alex J. Grieshop, 25, Fort Recovery, speeding, $15; Waldo J. Hudson, 80, Salamonia, lanes of travel violation, $23.50.
Truck fire
Pennville Fire Department responded to a truck fire Friday.
The department was contacted at 6:28 p.m. for a report of a truck on fire in a field at 4265 W. 600 North, Portland.
Car damaged
A Portland woman reported damage to her vehicle that was parked at an auto repair shop.
Kimberly D. Hensley told Portland Police Department her Nissan had been parked at Butler’s Garage, 805 N. Creagor Ave., Portland, since the beginning of September. When she went to pick it up recently, she noticed a scrape on the rear-end of the vehicle. Police could not determine what caused the damage.
Deer collision
A Geneva man’s car was damaged by a deer Thursday night in Adams County.
Lynn W. Burry, 70, was driving south on U.S. 27 near its intersection with Adams County road 850 South. He told Adams County Sheriff’s Office a deer ran into the road and struck the driver’s side of his vehicle.
Damage in the 10:35 p.m. collision is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
