BERNE — The Starfires improved their record to 3-0 Friday, knocking off the visiting Bluffton Tigers, 21-3.
South Adams (3-0, 1-0 Allen County Athletic Conference) jumped out to an early lead for homecoming on a James Arnold 24-yard touchdown pass to Nick Miller at 10:18 in the first quarter. Aiden Wanner’s kick made it 7-0.
A 30-yard field goal by Bluffton’s Kody Kinsey at 7:39 in the second quarter made it 7-3 at the half.
But a big third quarter put the game away.
Arnold scored on a 3-yard TD run at 8:48 in the third, and Wanner kicked in another PAT. Then Christian Summersett scored for South Adams with 39 seconds on the clock on a 2-yard run. Wanner’s kick was good again.
The Starfires racked up 241 yards of total offense, while holding Bluffton (2-1, 0-1 ACAC) to 182. Of that South Adams offense, 167 yards came from the passing attack as Arnold, a sophomore, completed 8 of 16 attempts. Arnold also led the Starfires in rushing with 27 yards.
Summersett rushed for 17 yards and caught two Arnold passes. Nic Stuber and Drake Deitsch each rushed for 15 yards.
Grant Besser caught two Arnold passes for 91 yards.
The Starfires hit the road Friday to take on Heritage (0-3, 0-1 ACAC).
