Jay County High School’s boys tennis team knocked off sectional rival Randolph Southern on Tuesday, 4-1.
At No. 2 singles, senior Conner Benter defeated Jake Mifsud 6-4, 6-2, and Gabe Blankenship beat Tyler Fink at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-0.
The No. 1 doubles tandem of Crosby Heniser and Sheldon Upp knocked off Colton Fisher and Jake Good 6-3, 6-4, while Christian Romero and Gavin Randall earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Tylor Holguin and Landon Saylor at No. 2 doubles.
Xavier Ninde, the Patriots’ No. 1 singles player, fell to Josh Good 6-2, 6-3.
Jay tops Tigers
BLUFFTON — Jay County’s volleyball team opened Allen County Athletic Conference play Tuesday with a 19-25, 25-7, 25-20, 25-9 victory over the Bluffton Tigers.
Natalie Miles paced Jay County (9-4, 1-0 ACAC) with eight kills. Olivia Kunkler and Hallie Fields were second on the team with seven kills apiece, and Alana Kunkler added four kills.
Olivia Kunkler had team-highs in both blocks (five) and aces (five), and Kailee Denney contributed 18 assists. Randi Ferguson tallied 16 digs and Maggie Pryor added 15.
Jay County’s junior varsity team also won, 25-18, 25-22. Lindy Mercer, Hanna Muhlenkamp and Madison Dirksen had three kills each.

YORKTOWN — Eden Basford had the first ace of her career as the Jay County girls golf team finished second Tuesday in a three-team meet with the host Yorktown Tigers and Wes-Del Warriors at The Players Club.
Yorktown won with a team total of 218, edging Jay County by two strokes. Wes-Del shot 221 for third.
Basford, a junior, aced the par-3 fifth hole, which was playing 138 yards. She finished with a career-best 48.
Mackenzie Parks shot 50 for the team’s second-best score, and Abby Huey had 59. Sierra Caster carded 63 to complete the team total.
JV goes above .500
Jay County’s junior varsity football team moved above .500 Tuesday with a 28-14 victory over Lapel.
Quinn Faulkner threw for one touchdown and ran for another as the Patriots (2-1) never trailed. Faulkner had 43 yards on four carries, and completed all six of his pass attempts for 105 yards. Sheldon Eley hauled in three receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown.
Caleb Hale, who finished with 95 rushing yards, and Tristin Huftel (45 yards) also ran in scores.
Blayne Daniels led the defense with five tackles.
