NOBLESVILLE — The Patriots dropped consecutive matches.

They rebounded to salvage a split for the tournament.

Jay County High School’s volleyball team bounced back from a pair of losses to finish on a winning note at the Noblesville Invitational on?Saturday.

The Patriots (12-6)?beat Marion (25-5, 25-18) before dropping matches to Huntington North (19-25, 26-24, 15-6) and Franklin Central (25-23, 19-25, 15-12). A 25-19, 23-25, 16-14 win over Plainfield helped salvage the tournament.

Alana Kunkler and Hallie Fields were first and second respectively in kills. Kunkler finished with 23, one more than Fields. Natalie Miles chipped in 17 kills.

Defensively, Maggie Pryor recorded 56 digs, and Kunkler finished with eight blocks. Miles also had 47 digs.

Kailee Denney racked up 59 assists.



Stars second

WABASH — The South Adams High School volleyball team finished 2-1 and was the runner-up in the Apache Invitational on Saturday hosted by Wabash.

South Adams (13-6) reached the final by beating Taylor (25-10, 25-12) and University (25-14, 19-25, 15-4), before dropping the title match to the host Apaches 20-25, 29-27, 15-13.

Shaelynn Bowman led the Starfires with 26 kills, half of which came in the win over University. Gabriella Bailey tallied 18 kills, Carlie Sealscott finished with 16 kills and Lydia Loshe chipped in a dozen kills.

Hannah Dull and Sealscott tallied 40 and 30 digs respectively, as Josie Grabau helped her teammates to the tune of 39 assists.



Tribe JV 2-1

NEW BREMEN, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s junior varsity volleyball team went 2-1 in a tournament with Midwest Athletic Conference rivals in the New Bremen Invitational on Saturday.

The Indians knocked off Versailles (25-16, 25-18) and Marion Local (25-15, 25-19) before losing to St. Henry 25-17, 25-19.

Whitley Rammel had a team-high 16 kills for the invite, while Marissa Gaerke was second with 14. Ava Bubp’s 12 digs led the squad. 

Grace Guggenbiller had a team-best eight aces and Hope Wendel contributed 52 assists.
