MUNCIE — Sophia Fugiett and Raven Weaver were both in the top 10.
Skyler Myers just missed out.
Jay County High School’s boys and girls cross country teams got a look at their sectional course Saturday as they competed in the Delta Invitational at Muncie SportsPlex.
The JCHS girls totaled 67 points for third place, two points behind Greenfield-Central. Delta won with 46 points.
Cathedral scored 21 points to win the boys race. Greenfield-Central (45) and Delta (98) were second and third respectively. Jay County totaled 155 points for fifth out of nine teams.
Fugiett, a sophomore, crossed the finish line in 20 minutes, 54.1 seconds for third. Freshman Weaver was 10th in 22:19.6.
Also scoring for the Patriots were freshman Lindy Wood (13th – 22:39.1), sophomore Miranda Alig (18th – 23:46.2) and sophomore Lita Chowning (37th – 26:42.5).
Myers led the Jay County boys by placing 11th in 17:29. Tayler Smeltzer was 27th in 18:54.4, while Aaron Funkhouser (19:46.8) and Ben Hunter (19:47.9) were back-to-back in 37th and 38th.
Dustin Harris rounded out the team total as he was 42nd in 20:11.4.
Middle school
The East Jay Chiefs boys cross country team totaled 55 points to finish first Saturday. The West Jay Eagles were 16th with 483 points.
The Chief girls totaled 71 points for second, while the Eagles had 24 points for 12th.
Thomas LeMaster and Cameron Clark led the EJMS boys by finishing fourth and fifth respectively. Sebastian Solis and Tyler Manor were back-to-back in 13th and 14th, and Grayson Williams was 19th.
For the Eagles, Aiden Stephens placed 123rd and Lukes Powers finished 130th. Jayson Ayala (155th), Caleb Dollar (157th) and Thomas Charles (212th) completed the team total.
Lydia Keihn placed second overall for the EJMS girls. Mara Bader and Natalie Carreno were ninth and 10th respectively. Emily Manor placed 18th and Makaylah Brainerd was 34th.
Hailey Ayala of West Jay was the top Eagle in 45th place. Lucy Raines (51st), Emma Outcalt (57th), Gabbi Bilbrey (84th) and Zoe Hammers (98th) also scored.
