Theft reported
John Bruggeman reported the theft of several items from his property at 7481 E 150 North to Jay County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday.
Among the items reported stolen from a turkey barn were a Lincoln 225 welder, a Campbell air compressor, a Makita cordless drill, a Makita cordless saw, a wooden box with a number of parts, four cases of 100-watt bulbs, a 6x10 landscaping trailer, a golf cartand a portable torch.
Backing mishap
Less than $1,000 in damage was reported shortly after noon Friday in a backing accident in the Portland Walmart parking lot.
Voyd L. Ullom, 55, Portland, was backing his 1999 GMC truck out of a parking spot when it hit a 2008 Saturn registered to Roger Adkins, rural Dunkirk.
Distracted
Dylan M. Retherford, 22, rural Bluffton, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was distracted by his radio while eastbound on Indiana 26 near its intersection with Indiana 1 about 12:40 a.m. Saturday.
He failed to stop at the T-intersection and his 2005 Mercury Montego ran off the roadway and struck landscaping at Hickory Grove Church.
Damage was estimated between $10,000 and $25,000.
Hits deer
An SUV driven by a rural Portland woman struck a deer on Boundary Pike near county road 300 South about 5:10 p.m. Wednesday.
A report by Jay County Sheriff’s Office said Patty A. Starr, 68, was northbound in her 2016 GMC Acadia when the deer ran into her vehicle’s path.
Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Hit when stopped
A Portland woman’s SUV was struck in the rear about 10:35 p.m. Saturday when the driver stopped in traffic because a police car had made a U-turn in front of her.
Sara J. Romine, 33, told Portland police she was attempting to make a right turn from Meridian Street onto Industrial Drive but stopped because of the police car’s actions. Her 2009 Chevrolet Traverse was then struck by a southbound 1999 Ford Explorer driven by Bradley L. Steen, 44, Portland.
Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
