Jay County has a new emergency management director.
In a special meeting Wednesday afternoon, county commissioners unanimously agreed to hire Jessica Ooten of Redkey to succeed Ralph Frazee, who has retired from the position after 15 years of service.
Ooten is currently employed as an E-911 dispatcher for the county and has served as a deputy coroner for the county since February 2018.
She graduated Ball State University in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and criminology. She holds state and national certification as an emergency medical technician. She also serves as a lieutenant in the Portland Police Department Reserves and is trained as a medicolegal death investigator.
Commissioners Chuck Huffman, Mike Leonhard and Chad Aker interviewed three candidates for the job in executive session earlier this week.
