ATV theft
An Ohio man reported a theft from a property he owns in Jay County.
On Saturday, Shawn Schneider told Jay County Sheriff’s Office that a Honda Recon ATV had been stolen sometime during the last two weeks. Schneider owns property on Indiana 67 near its intersection with county road 400 South. Two doors to a barn where the vehicle was stored had been pried open.
The ATV is green with black pin-striping. It has luggage racks on both ends, Swamp Fox tires and a hitch mounted on the back.
Backing accident
A Ridgeville man struck the side of a car while backing the vehicle he was driving out of a parking spot Saturday.
Austin T. Sofronko, 20, was backing a 2005 Dodge Magnum out of a parking spot at Persimmon Ridge, 200 N. Park St., Portland. The passenger side of the Dodge struck the driver’s side of a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox parked next to Sofronko.
Sofronko left the scene but was later located and admitted to the accident. The Dodge he was driving is registered to Tammy J. Sofronko, Ridgeville.
The Equinox is registered to Taylor R. Hersberger, Portland.
Damage in the 8:55 p.m. collision is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Plate theft
A Portland man reported a theft of a license plate Friday.
Randy L. Hampshire, who lives in the west 900 block of Main Street, told Portland Police Department a paper temporary license plate had been ripped off the back of his van.
