Free events set
Jay County Solid Waste Management District will hold a pair of free events this week.
A rain barrel workshop is scheduled for 6 p.m. today at the district office, 5948 W. Indiana 67, Portland. Those in attendance will be provided with a barrel and other necessary supplies.
A free shred day is slated for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, also at the district office.
Those events come on the heels of a free landfill day April 13 that saw 209 vehicles pass through. That number is up from 149 during a free landfill day in September.
Also at its meeting Monday, the solid waste management district’s board approved the payment of claims of $72,269.31. The district brought in $17,532.07 in tipping fees in March for 10,113.75 tons dumped at Jay County Landfill. It now has a total balance of $389,737.37.
