Jay Co. softball to meet Huskies
IHSAA, OHSAA release softball tournament draws
INDIANAPOLIS — The Patriots get the host team.
The Starfires get a bye to the semifinal.
The IHSAA softball sectional tournament draw was Sunday, setting the stage for the postseason tournament that begins May 21.
In the Class 2A Sectional 24 tournament at Hamilton Heights in Arcadia, the Jay County Patriots (5-5) will open sectional play against the host Huskies (1-11) in the first game of the tournament at 5 p.m. May 21. The other opening-round game pits the Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles (8-5) against the Delta Eagles (8-3) at 7 p.m. the same night.
The winners of the first two games advance to the 5 p.m. semifinal on May 23. The other semifinal has the New Castle Trojans (4-7) meeting the defending sectional champion Yorktown Tigers (10-2) at 7 p.m. May 23.
South Adams (10-2), which is tied for ninth in Class 2A and the three-time defending sectional champion, received a bye to the 7 p.m. May 23 semifinal against the Canterbury Cavaliers (0-4) in the Sectional 36 tournament at Churubusco.
The opening-round games, which will be played May 21, have the Bluffton Tigers (5-7) squaring off against the host Eagles (0-9) at 5 p.m., with the Adams Central Jets (4-1) meeting the Woodlan Warriors (6-5) at 7 p.m.
Winners of the opening-round games advance to the semifinal at 5 p.m. May 23.
The sectional championship games are slated for 6 p.m. May 25.

WAPAKONETA — For the second straight year, the Fort Recovery softball team will host a tournament game.
Fort Recovery’s softball team earned the No. 3 seed for the Division IV Wapakoneta District tournament from the draw held Sunday afternoon.
The Indians (10-9) will host the sectional final at 5 p.m. May 9 against either the No. 6 seed Ada Bulldogs or No. 7 seed Marion Local Flyers (5-11).
The second-seeded New Bremen Cardinals (12-6) will host either the Lima Perry Commodores (4-13) or Upper Scioto Valley (3-9) in the other sectional final on the lower half of the bracket. Sectional winners advance to the district semifinal at 6:30 p.m. May 14 at Wapakoneta.
The top half of the bracket has the No. 1 overall Minster Wildcats (19-0) hosting either the St. Henry Redskins (2-23) or Waynsfield-Goshen Tigers (0-7-1). The sectional champion advances to the district semifinal at 4:30 p.m. May 14 against either Mt. Victory Ridgemont (10-8) or Hardin Northern (8-7).
The district championship is slated for 5 p.m. May 17.
