Attempted suicide
Emergency medical services were dispatched this morning for a report of a suicide attempt at a church in Dunkirk.
According to a preliminary report from Jay County Sheriff’s Office dispatchers, a man shot himself inside St. Mary Catholic Church, 346 S. Broad St. Lutheran Air’s helicopter was already in service, so the patient was transported by ambulance to Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
Dunkirk Police Department refused to provide information about the incident.
Detour disregard
A semi truck went off the side of a county road Thursday after its driver disregarded detour signs.
Musa Kaba, 48, Las Vegas, Nevada, was driving south on county road 200 East approaching its intersection with county road 600 North when the semi truck he was driving went off the west side of the road into the ditch. The semi became stuck, causing a road closure of about three hours. According to a report from Jay County Sheriff’s Office, Kaba disregarded the detour for bridge work on U.S. 27.
The 2011 Volvo he was driving is registered to Shabad Transport, Hamilton, Ohio.
Landscaping owned by Eric Morehous and Adam Morehous was damaged in the 5:25 p.m. accident. Total damage is estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
Rear-ended
A Muncie man and a Portland man were involved in a vehicle collision Thursday afternoon.
Heath D. Butz, 40, Muncie, was driving his 2012 Ford F150 south on Meridian Street and stopped behind another vehicle turning left onto Adams Street. Mason D. Mock, 19, Portland, was driving a 2009 Honda Civic behind Butz and failed to stop, striking the rear of the truck.
The Honda is registered to Terry D. Mock, Portland.
Damage in the 2:22 p.m. accident is estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
Deer struck
A Redkey man hit a deer with the car he was driving Saturday night.
Matthew J. Sager, 18, was driving southeast on Como Road near its intersection with county road 400 South when a deer ran out in front of the 1999 Honda CRV he was driving.
The Honda is registered to Charles E. Sager, Redkey.
Damage in the 10:59 p.m. collision is estimated to be less than $1,000.
Fell asleep
A Portland man fell asleep while driving early Saturday morning, causing the car he was driving to leave the road and hit a tree.
Jacob A. Wall, 28, was driving southwest on Treaty Line Road near its intersection with county road 300 East when he fell asleep. The 2005 GMC Yukon he was driving went off the south side of the road, striking a tree.
The car is registered to Jackie and Sharon E. Wall, Portland.
Damage in the 2:58 a.m. accident is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Car flooded
A Portland woman drove into a flooded roadway Friday morning, causing an estimated $2,500 to $5,000 in damage to her vehicle.
At 5 a.m., Cynthia A. Bessesen, 56, was driving her 2005 GMC Envoy north on Indiana 1 near its intersection with county road 100 South. According to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office report, Bessesen drove around a road closed sign into high water covering the road. Her vehicle couldn’t make it through and had to be towed from the water.
Drove off road
A Pennville man drove his car off the road Thursday night during heavy rain.
Ryan R. Scott, 35, was driving his 2000 BMW 323i west on county road 200 North approaching its intersection with county road 600 West. His car went off the south side of the road, becoming stuck in the ditch.
Damage in the 9:20 p.m. accident is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Criminal mischief
A Portland woman reported damage to a house she owns.
Vicki Fellers told Portland Police Department that someone broke into a vacant house she owns in the north 600 block of Williams Street. The front door was damaged and a poster was taken off the wall.
