Good auction

The 37th annual Holiday Benefit Auction at Arts Place netted more than $22,000 to support the regional arts organization.

Arts Place executive director Eric Rogers noted that this was the fourth most successful Holiday Benefit Auction in Arts Place history, exceeding the total raised in the last two years.

“Not only will the funds raised support our ArtWorks, MusicWorks, Arts in the Parks and other programs, but the event brought the community together for a night of fellowship and fun,” said Carolyn Carducci, Arts Place director of development.

Blood drives

Two American Red Cross blood drives have been scheduled for December in Jay County.

Write soon

It’s time for area youngsters to write their letters to Santa to be included in The Commercial Review’s annual Christmas Greetings special section.

Letters may be sent via email to [email protected], via the U.S. Postal Service at P.O. Box 1049, Portland, IN 47371, or dropped off at the newspaper’s offices at 309 W. Main St., Portland.

It’s also time for area pastors to be writing their Christmas messages to be included in that same section.

A letter went out to pastors in November urging them to take advantage of this opportunity to remind the community of the real meaning of the holiday.

The same section will include the winning entry in The CR’s annual Christmas fiction contest.

The deadline for Christmas fiction entries has been extended to Dec. 12. The deadline for pastor’s messages is Dec. 12. And Santa letters should be sent in as soon as possible. Like the Santa letters, the pastoral messages and Christmas fiction may be sent via email as an attached file in Word to [email protected].

Elsa’s coming

Queen Elsa from “Frozen” will visit throughout the event. Santa will be on hand from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

There will be cookie decorating, hot cocoa and a chance to create Christmas crafts.
