The opportunity to give an opinion in how Jay County’s representatives should vote in the upcoming legislative session is dwindling.
Jay County residents have a week to take the legislative survey of Rep. J.D. Prescott (R-Union City), which is posted on his website https://www.indianahouserepublicans.com/members/general/john-prescott/.
The survey features questions on many of the top issues expected to be voted on in the upcoming legislative session.
“It’s important to me to get as much feedback as possible,” said Prescott.
Questions cover topics such as education funding, work requirements for able Medicaid recipients and drug testing requirements for welfare recipients under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program.
Sen. Travis Holdman (R-Markle) also has a survey, which is available on his website https://www.indianasenaterepublicans.com/holdman until mid-January, he said.
“It helps me decide on how I’ll vote,” said Holdman, who added that the survey posted online features more questions than the surveys submitted through the mail.
Holdman’s survey includes questions on the legalization of medicinal marijuana, increasing the legal smoking age to 21 and whether the state should be able to issue speeding tickets if a camera shows a driver sped in a work zone, as well as the topics covered in Prescott’s survey.
Those who take the surveys are required to be of voting age and reside in representative District 33 and/or senate District 19, both of which includes all of Jay County.
The 2020 Indiana General Assembly begins Jan. 6.
