John Hogg

John Hogg, age 96, a former Salamonia resident passed away Saturday, Dec. 28, 2019, at his home in Portland.
He was born Oct. 17, 1923, in Jay County, the son of Charles and Mabel (Wilkinson) Hogg. He retired from Sheller Globe in Union City, Indiana, after 34 years.
He was a member of the Salamonia United Church of Christ for over 50 years. He was a charter member of the Portland Evening Optimist Club and also a member of the Portland Odd Fellows Lodge.
John was married to Anna Shauver on May 12, 1950, she passed away on Aug. 7, 1988, he then married Rosemary Brumm in 1991 she passed away on March 19, 2013.
Survivors include:
Two daughters — Jane Jackson, Portland, and Beth Richards (husband: Terry), Portland
One son — Michael Hogg (wife: Alice), Greenville, Ohio
One stepdaughter — Rose Ann Hough, Dothan, Alabama
One daughter-in-law — Marilyn Herman, Berne
One brother — Eddie Hogg, Portland
One sister — Mary Lou Maddox, Portland
Eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by a son, Dick Hogg; a brother, Robert Hogg; and two sisters, Rose Wolford and Lydia Tingley.
Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday in the Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral Services will follow at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Pastor Bruce Phillips will officiate the services and burial will follow in Salamonia Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Jay County Cancer Society.
