Future teammates squared off on the hardwood Monday night as the East Jay Middle School seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams hosted West Jay.
The home team came out on top.
East Jay’s eighth grade team bested West Jay by a score of 26-18, while the seventh grade Chiefs beat the Eagles, 31-2.
Renna Schwieterman led the Chief eighth graders (11-1) with 13 points, and Eden Abshire chipped in four points. Lydia Keihn collected two points for East Jay.
Abbie Fields was the West Jay’s leading scorer with eight points. Grace Shimp followed with four points while Taylor Braun, and Alizabeth Stotler chipped in two points each.
In the seventh grade game, Branna Dirksen of East Jay (10-1) scored 10 points, while teammate Sophie Saxman tallied six points. Bralee VanSkyock and Cash Hollowell tossed in four points apiece.
West Jay seventh grade stats were not provided.
Chiefs sweep Tigers
HAGERSTOWN — East Jay’s seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams both earned wins against the Hagerstown Tigers on Monday.
The seventh graders moved to 7-4 on the season with a 34-19 win, and the eighth graders improved to 10-1 with their 48-24 triumph.
Sam Myers led the EJMS seventh graders with 12 points, and Zach McAbee was second with eight points. Bryce Wenk collected six points while Abraham Dirksen finished with four points.
For the eighth graders, Bennett Weitzel paced the scoring attack with a dozen points. Josh Dowlen’s nine points were second, and Blake Bogenschutz tossed in six points.
SA falls to Harding
FORT WAYNE — The South Adams seventh boys basketball team came out on the losing end against the Paul Harding Hawks on Monday.
The SAMS seventh graders fell 31-21, dipping to 3-6 on the season.
Isaac Dee led the Starfires in the losing effort with seven points. Owen Wanner was second with six points and Conner Fear totaled three points.
A final score and stats for the eighth grade game were not provided.
