Woman injured
A Portland man struck a woman with his car Monday night at Oakwood MHC, injuring her.
According to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office report, Eddie D. Sampley, 65, 1237 N. U.S. 27, Lot 103, was stopped in his 2007 Pontiac Torrent in the Oakwood parking lot. Angel L. Riley, 25, Portland, was standing by the front passenger side of the Pontiac and was attempting to stop Sampley from driving away after an argument. Riley was struck by the Pontiac as Sampley began to move.
Riley sustained a cut on her head and was transported from the scene for further medical treatment.
Sampley is facing a charge of leaving the scene of an accident, a Class A misdemeanor. He has not been arrested.
Damage in the 8:40 p.m. accident is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Improper passing
A Portland woman and an Ohio man were involved in a vehicle collision Friday afternoon.
Janice R. Rittenhouse, 57, was driving northeast on Indiana 67 near its intersection with Tyson Road and was slowing down to turn left into Jay County High School. Jeremy J. Wilson, 40, Forest, Ohio, was driving a 1997 Peterbilt semi truck behind Rittenhouse. As Rittenhouse stopped, Wilson passed her on the left in a no-passing zone. The semi’s passenger side hit the rear driver’s side of Rittenhouse’s 2017 Toyota Highlander.
The semi is registered to Pennywise Leasing LLC, Alvada, Ohio.
Damage in the 2:50 p.m. collision is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
