Backing accident
Two trucks collided Thursday morning when one driver backed up to leave space for a turning semi truck.
Alan D. Stammen, 55, St. Henry, Ohio, was driving west on Water Street and was stopped at its intersection with Meridian Street. He told Portland Police Department a semi truck was turning from Meridian Street onto Water Street, so he began to back up the 2017 Ford F150 he was driving to give it more space. The back of his truck then struck the front end of the pickup truck Corey W. Cox was driving. Cox, 30, Portland, was traveling west on Water Street behind Stammen.
The truck Stammen was driving is registered to Wheels Inc., Des Plaines, Illinois. Cox was driving a 2015 RAM pickup truck registered to the City of Portland.
Damage in the 9:22 a.m. collision is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Theft
A Portland man reported his wallet stolen from Murphy USA Wednesday.
John R. Hampshire told Portland Police Department he was paying for fuel inside the gas station at 990 W. Votaw St., Portland, and set his wallet on the counter. He stepped away to grab an additional item, and when he returned the wallet was gone. It contained his identification, credit cards and $70 in cash.
Theft
A woman reported her motorcycle missing Thursday.
Ivory K. Myers told Jay County Sheriff’s Office her 1972 Harley Davidson motorcycle had been taken from her former residence in the west 11000 block of Indiana 67. She said she was in the process of moving and had returned to the property to pick up the motorcycle when she discovered it was missing.
