ARCADIA — Lizzie Dollar came up just a bit short.
Dollar of Jay County High School finished runner-up on Friday in the Indiana High School Girls Wrestling State Finals at Hamilton Heights.
It was the highest finish for a Jay County girl at the IHSGW state meet.
Lita Chowning also competed and placed seventh.
Dollar began her 98-pound tournament by pinning Kyra Stouffer of Maconaquah in 1 minute, 36 seconds. She then disposed of Providence’s Lydvine Adjahouisso 1:20 into the second period.
In the championship match, Dollar got pinned by Chesterton’s Madelin Rearick in 60 seconds.
Chowning, a 113-pound competitor, lost in the third period of her opening match to Madison Frankin of Warren Central before a 9-2 loss to Justyce Walker of Muncie Central.
She rebounded to beat Pendleton Heights’ Gracie Addison with a pin in the first period.
Dollar and Chowning combined to earn 24 team points for Jay County, which tied with Crawfordsville for 15th place out of 59 scoring teams.
