Girls open with Delta

INDIANAPOLIS — The Patriots get a familiar foe to open the tournament.

The Starfires will have to wait for their first opponent.

In the IHSAA sectional tournament draw held Sunday, the Jay County High School girls basketball team got an opening-round matchup with the Delta Eagles, a team it beat by 19 on Thursday.

The Patriots (15-7) meet the Eagles (12-9) in the third game of the Class 3A Sectional 24 tournament at approximately 7:30 p.m. Jan. 30. The winner advances to the semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 1 against either the host Trojans (11-8) or Blackford Bruins (1-18), who meet at 6 p.m. Jan. 30.

The first game of the tournament features the Yorktown Tigers (11-7) against defending sectional champion Hamilton Heights Huskies (11-10) at 7 p.m. Jan. 29. The winner advances to play the Burris Owls (6-10) in the semifinal at 6 p.m. Feb. 1.

The championship game is slated for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2.

In the Class 2A Sectional 36 tournament at Bluffton, the South Adams Starfires (10-10) received a bye to the semifinal. The Adams Central Jets (10-10) and Canterbury Cavaliers (0-9) play at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 30, with the winner meeting the Starfires at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 1.

The top half of the bracket has the Eastside Blazers (6-13) and the host Bluffton Tigers (10-9), who are defending champions, meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 30 for the chance to play the Churubusco Eagles (4-15) in the semifinal at 6 p.m. Feb. 1. 

The championship game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2.
