Eagle eighth graders get win

DUNKIRK — West Jay’s eighth grade girls basketball team picked up a 22-11 win agains Adams Central on Monday.

The Eagle seventh graders lost, 24-21.

Grace Shimp scored seven points as the leading scorer on the eighth grade squad. Gabi Bilbrey was second with six points and Abbie Fields third with four points. Paige Mumbower and Taylor Brown contributed three and two points, respectively.

In the seventh grade contest, Jozey Shimp finished with nine points to lead the team. Angel Claireday collected six points. Laila Waddell tossed in four points while Alaysha Brannon tallied two points. 



Chief wrestlers win

Eleven wrestlers got wins, propelling the East Jay Middle School team to a 66-30 victory Monday over Monroe Central.

Landon Blowers, a 110-pounder, got a pin for the Chiefs. Cameron Clark (117), Grayson Williams (125) and AJ Myers (132) also won by pin.

Landon Garringer (75), Cody Rowles (90), Nate Paxson (140), Tristan Stout (150), Max LeMaster (175), Adryon Miller (195) and Ricardo Nava (220) all received forfeits. 

Mallory Winner, Jay Goodrich and Sebastian Jones won their respective reserve matches.



Boys come up short

MONROE — The West Jay seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams both came up short against the host Adams Central Jets on Monday.

The eighth graders fell 36-17, and the seventh graders lost by a 49-17 margin.

Jaydence Brannon and Dominic Newsome led the eighth graders with five points apiece. Skyler Bee tallied four points and Peyton James had three points.

Parker Nichols scored eight points to lead the WJMS seventh graders, who also got five points from Trevin Dunnington and three from Jackson Edwards. Liam Garringer added one free throw.
