More than a month after the season ended, local players are still pulling in accolades.
South Adams High School pitcher Grant Besser added to his lengthy list of honors this week when he was named to the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 2A All-State Team.
Wyatt Geesaman and Noah Arbuckle were named all-state honorable mention in Class 3A, and Nic Stuber of South Adams was named all-state honorable mention in Class 2A.
Besser, named to the Class 2A team as a pitcher, allowed just six runs in 54 1/3 innings this year for a 0.77 ERA. He had a .552 whip and struck out 130 batters while walking just 10.
The senior was also the Starfires’ top batter with a .438 average. He racked up 32 hits, including four home runs, 28 runs and 23 RBIs.
Geesaman, who is headed to the University of Cincinnati, was also honored for his pitching prowess after going 5-2 with a 1.43 ERA for the Patriots. He recorded 91 strikeouts in 49 innings of work.
Arbuckle was strong for JCHS on the mound, but it was his nine home runs in 97 plate appearances that earned him all-state honors. He posted a .395 batting average while driving in 39 runs and scoring 23 times.
Stuber only trailed Besser at the plate for SAHS, hitting .408 with 31 hits, 23 runs and 16 RBIs.
