Felony court news

Possession 

A Bryant woman pleaded guilty in Jay Superior Court to unlawful possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony. 

Tasia D. Boolman, 28, 106 S. Francis St., was sentenced to one year in Jay County Jail and given six days credit for three days served. The remaining time will be served on electronically monitored home detention. Boolman was assessed court costs of $185. 



Battery 

A Portland man was sentenced in Jay Superior Court for a battery charge. 

Chad R. Bellis, 47, 110 N. Silver Lane, pleaded guilty to battery on a person younger than 14 years old, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to Jay County Jail for 18 months with all but two days suspended and given two days credit for one day served. He was assessed court costs of $185 and placed on formal probation for 18 months. Bellis may petition the court for a reduction to a Class A misdemeanor upon successful completion of his probation. 



Battery 

A Portland man pleaded guilty in Jay Circuit Court to a battery charge. 

Raymond Clinghan Jr., 26, 1018 W. Race St., pleaded guilty to battery resulting in bodily injury to a public safety official, a Level 5 felony. He was sentenced to three years in the Indiana Department of Correction with two years suspended, to be served on formal probation. He was given credit for time served from Dec. 31 to Jan. 2 and from Jan. 11. Clinghan was assessed court costs of $185. As part of a plea agreement, charges of residential entry and resisting law enforcement, Level 6 felonies, and resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor, were dismissed. 



Two charges  

A Hartford City woman pleaded guilty to two charges in Jay Superior Court. 

Tina M. Johnson, 516 E. Main St., pleaded guilty to theft, a Level 6 felony. She was sentenced to 18 months in Jay County Jail with all but 60 days suspended and given 10 days credit for five days served. She was assessed court costs of $185 and a $150 “Thinking For Good” program fee, and was placed on formal probation for 16 months. 

In a separate case, Johnson pleaded guilty to visiting a common nuisance, a Class B misdemeanor, as a lesser included offense of maintaining a common nuisance, a Level 6 felony. She was sentenced to 180 days in Jay County Jail with all but 60 days suspended and given 60 days credit for 30 days served. She was assessed court costs of $185 and placed on formal probation for six months. As part of a plea agreement, a charge of unlawful possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony, was dismissed. 



Probation violation 

A Redkey man was sentenced in Jay Superior Court for violating his probation. 

Steven G. Robbins, 24, 20 S. George St., was found in violation of his probation on the original charge of theft, a Level 6 felony. He was ordered to serve an additional 160 days of the sentence imposed Nov. 29 and was given 140 days credit for 70 days served. An additional petition alleging probation violation was dismissed, and his probation was terminated unsuccessfully. 

In a separate case, Robbins pleaded guilty to invasion of privacy, a Class A misdemeanor. He was sentenced to Jay County Jail for 90 days, to be served beginning June 9, consecutively to the sentence for the previous charge. He was also assessed court costs of $185. 

An additional charge against Robbins of invasion of privacy, a Class A misdemeanor, was also dismissed.
