New Farmers Building a great addition
The Jay County Fair has a new star.
No, that’s not a reference to the latest big name entertainment taking the stage in front of the grandstand.
The new star is the new Farmers Building.
With a combination of public and private support, the Jay County Fair Board has created a new focal point for activities at the grounds, replacing a venerable but dangerously aging structure with a new building.
The old Farmers Building began its life as a livestock barn for 4-H then was moved to a spot closer to the midway many years ago.
But time takes its toll.
The old building had reached the point that it really wasn’t safe for human occupancy.
Beams had been patched together.
Support posts were rotting at ground level.
The place was simply worn out.
Its replacement has been well thought out, well designed and well constructed.
The stage has been enlarged, the ceiling has been raised and up to date electrical service has been installed.
In short, it’s a gem.
And it’s likely to continue to be a gem for many years to come. — J.R.
