BLUFFTON — The Chiefs were perfect against conference rivals.
They’ll go for the tournament title on Saturday.
East Jay Middle School’s wrestling team ended its regular season with an emphatic 56-21 victory over the Bluffton Tigers on Thursday as it finished the season with a 12-3 record and a perfect 7-0 mark against Allen County Athletic Conference opponents.
The ACAC tournament is slated for 9 a.m. Saturday at Adams Central.
Griffin Byrum registered the first EJMS victory on Thursday with a pin in just 27 seconds at 80 pounds to give the Chiefs an overall team lead it never relinquished. Bradin Daniels (85 pounds) followed with a pin in 24 seconds and Tony Wood (90) disposed of his opponent as quickly as Byrum.
Cody Rowles earned a 16-1 tech fall at 95 pounds, and Cameron Clark got a pin in his 117-pound match in 59 seconds.
Reed Brandenburg needed just nine seconds to pin Kaden Simpson at 132 pounds, and Nate Paxson followed with a pin of Aiden King in 1:39 at 140 pounds.
Adryon Miller (195) pinned Cooper Worster in 57 seconds, and Bryce Wenk picked up a forfeit at 160 pounds.
Presley Kunkle (95), Carter Barton (95), Dakota Chowning (102), Mallory Winner (117), AJ Myers (125), Lauren Pruett (140) and Layne Reidt (150) each won their respective exhibition matches.
